Relaunching a brand, internally & externally.

I worked on a range of different projects for London-based Instinctif Partners alongside Chief Creative Officer Richard Pemberton that included engagement, corporate communications and events. With eBay as a main client in the middle of a brand refresh, many of the projects were major events as well as their internal and external communication initiatives.

A platform to help small business owners survive the age of Amazon.

eBay’s selling platform is a boon for small business owners. Opening an eBay store immediately gives access to a global consumer base as well as right tools to grow digitally.  It also allows SBOs to have their inventory available online 24/7. We worked with the communications team at eBay to bring to life “Always Open on eBay”. Initially kicking off with local Bay Area eBay sellers who had retail storefronts, the program later focused on the city of Akron with a “Retail Revival” that showcased local businesses with eBay stores. We also created a representative store to showcase all of the available signage design guidelines to recruit sellers, as well as other ideas like custom color branding, shoppable windows and custom displays. Simply use eBay’s name to celebrate diversity and inclusion.

eBay wanted an idea to celebrate Pride that could not only work for the San Francisco Pride Parade, but globally as well. We worked with the internal team to refine and create a presence that only eBay could do. Just by adding 2 more characters to the eBay name created a simple, elegant way to encompass diversity and togetherness- #webay. Initially launched with the colors of the Rainbow Flag, the program continued and evolved into their new brand system by designer Mekhi Baldwin. The #w color system was intended to change color over time when representing other diverse groups at eBay.

Creating the event for eBay’s community of sellers.

eBay Open is eBay’s largest event for sellers in Las Vegas. Instinctif Partners created the event as well as led creative, overseeing Jack Morton Worldwide as the production partner. Leading the art direction on the event for several years, I helped conceptualize and art direct many elements including logos, style guide, executive presentations and booths with CCO Rich Pemberton. Our team included many designers: Ryan LeCluyse as lead designer, Brian Toth, Constantine Pitsilos, Mekhi Baldwin and Lisa Meckler.

A flexible, innovative space at the retail innovation event of the year, Shoptalk.

Working within the yearly theme of the Shoptalk, we created a large booth that could be reconfigured on a daily basis to reflect an ever-changing event schedule from the clients. Other details to incorporate included a new shoppable display every day, a conference room area for private meetings and a center “stage” that evolved with the different daily events. Working with CCO Rich Pemberton, we developed a three area booth that maximized the space- both horizontally and vertically to give them a noticeable presence. Moodie Younis, 3D designer, helped refine and bring the vision to life. IXD was the production company. Other elements included event signage, branded leave behinds and executive presentations.

A simple way to make new employees feel great about where they work.

A conceptual piece and not largely produced, this eBay brand book for new employees brought to life the brand values and personality as well as leveraged eBay’s new brand identity. Designed by Mekhi Baldwin and copywritten by Michael Radlick, the brief for the book was to be simple, fun and cool. The key was to create a system within it that surprises and delights as you read it as well as be bold when needed.
